How telehealth works from Long Island
Our office is in Newburgh, well out of reach for a weekly drive from Nassau or Suffolk, so on Long Island we work by telehealth. Sessions run in a web browser on a phone, tablet or computer. You need a private place to talk and a steady connection. North shore or south, Nassau or Suffolk, it works the same way.
A train car on the LIRR isn't private enough, but a parked car at the station can be. So can a spare room at home, or an office with a door that closes.
Summers out east, winters in the city
Many people on the East End split the year between Water Mill or Bridgehampton and somewhere else. As long as both places are in New York, you keep the same therapist all year, with no break when you move for the season.
One thing to plan around: the ferries from Orient Point and Port Jefferson go to Connecticut. Our clinicians practice in New York State, so book your session for before you board or after you're back.
Around Stony Brook and East Setauket, with the university and the hospital close by, plenty of people work long or unusual hours. A session from home means the only time it takes is the session itself.
Insurance and cost
We take these plans. If you'd rather pay for yourself, individual sessions are $100 and couples sessions are $115.
Questions people ask
Can I keep my therapist when I move out east for the summer?
Yes, as long as you're in New York State. The Hamptons and the North Fork are, so nothing changes.
Is there an office on Long Island?
No. Our only office is in Newburgh, in the Hudson Valley. From Long Island, you meet by telehealth.
Do you take insurance on Long Island?
The plans we take are listed on this page, and they don't change by county. Carriers sell more than one kind of plan, so we check yours before your first session.
What if my connection is spotty out east?
Find the spot in the house with the best signal, or use a computer on home Wi-Fi rather than a phone. Your therapist will tell you at the start what to do if the video drops.
Do you work with couples by telehealth?
Yes. Couples can sit together in front of one screen. If you need to join from two places, tell us and we'll talk it through.
